This toy appeared in both China and Hong Kong in the 1980s.
The cat with a raised paw is a symbol of good luck in itself, but this mechanical toy goes further. When you pull the paw, the symbols in the eyes spin. It is rather like a fruit machine!
Here you don’t win money. Instead you wait to see which symbols appear in the eyes, and then read the little chart to see what your lucky colour for the day is.
The colours listed are pink, sky blue, white, gold, orange, wine red, beige and yellow.
