London Mayor Sadiq Khan hopes to cut transportation emissions to zero by 2050.

The ambitious plan would require Londoners to reduce their reliance on all types of cars. A key part the roadmap to zero emissions includes “record investment” in London’ public transportation system as well as building safer and more accommodating infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians.

Mayor Khan hopes that walking, cycling, and public transit will make up 80 percent of daily commutes by 2041.

The mayor also called for taxis to be non-polluting by 2033 and for all bus fleets to realize zero-emissions by 2037. Finally, all new cars would be zero-emission electric or alternative-fuel vehicles by 2040.

Khan’s initiative is open to public feedback through October.
