Lisa Gade reviews the Lenovo Legion Y520, a budget gaming laptop with a quad core 45 watt CPU, NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti 4GB GDDR5 graphics and a 1080p matte IPS display. Lenovo’s got their mojo back with the Y520: it has competitive specs for the price, a nice slim design and it’s understated (no gamer bling on the lid). The laptop starts at $850, and that gets you an Intel 7th generation Kaby Lake Core i5-7300HQ CPU, 8GB DDR4 RAM and a 1TB HDD. Our $1,180 middle configuration adds a boot 128 gig PCIe SSD, 16GB RAM and upgrades to the Core i7-7700HQ.
This gaming and pro apps notebook has a red backlit keyboard, ample ports, upgradable internals and it’s light at 5.3 lb. /2.4kg and slim at 1” / 25.8mm. It competes with the Dell Inspiron 15 7567 Gaming Edition, Asus ROG GL553VE, Acer Aspire 15 and the HP Omen 15.
