ian redshaw the pilot/owner sent this info over –

Span, about 17ft, weight 78lb, scale 1/8th, 4 x Zenoah 22cc petrols swinging scale ‘doubled up’ two bladers to make the fourbladers as per the full size Eastern route HP42. Its cheaper to ship 2 two bladers than a single massive fourblader! The slats are fully automatic and operate whenever the wing needs them. Airspeed pushes them shut. As the model slows down, the lifting pressure under the wing is now able to push its way through the back of the slat and forces them open, forcing more air over the wing and keeping that section flying. The conditions during the weekend of this video were quite turbulent and this is what can be seen when the slats ‘chatter’. Flying through thermals means the lifting pressure increases but the airspeed doesn’t, so lifting pressure wins and the slat is forced open, then closes again quickly as airspeed becomes dominant again. Hope this is useful, Ian.

many thanks ian – pete,
