Kershaw Volt 2: “Energized EDC” by Nutnfancy

Published on November 26, 2017

Jimping actually finds its way onto the mostly excellent Kershaw Volt 2 3650. Hallelujah. With this and the more hand filling scales the Volt 2 is a comfortable knife in use. Expect a pure EDC POU for which it’s sized ideally (size comparisons shown). Like other Kershaw blades in this line, the Volt 2 rocks 8Cr13Mov and this higher end Chinese steel that works about as well as AUS8. It can get and stay razor sharp but does not arrive that way and might need a little work to achieve impressive keeness. Don’t expect awesome rust resistance from this steel especially since it’s been blasted but its adequate for most uses. Speed is impressive and lockup is tight in the assisted opening Volt 2. Adjustablility is possible but wasn’t needed. Blade centering on this example was imperfect (no adjustment was attempted either). The clip is positionable to TU or TD but is somewhat organic in its execution. It carries well and deep in pocket however. The 3650’s Zytel scales provide some extra thickness which I like and are rounded for comfort (and the diamond plate pattern is intriguing). Most will dig the Volt 2 ergonomics when they see the knife in person. Value is extreme and the knife can be scored for around $20. This makes it another slam dunk addition to a high value folding knife collection. Expect great utility in the Volt 2 but it of course cannot match the specialness coolness of the original RJ Marin/Kershaw Volt collab that had me drooling. But knowing you could buy a whole case of Volt 2s for the price of one original Volt might help ease the pain./////////////////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 8.5 out of 10
