Maybe the Montauk Monster has a cousin?
A photo of an unrecognizable animal that was reportedly spotted walking on a wooden fence in New Jersey made its way to Reddit.com where readers are speculating on exactly what the strange-looking animal could be.

As it turns out, the photo didn’t originate in New Jersey. It appears to have first surfaced on WildCareOklahoma’s page, and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.

The black-skinned animal with long toes, a long snout and extremely long tail is pictured on top of a fence, facing away from the camera.

It’s hairless, and doesn’t quite look like any easily-identified animal or rodent.

The photo was submitted to reddit.com by user Diabolicism under the headline “what the hell is this animal!? (Spotted in NJ)”

Reddit users, often quick to answer an original poster’s question, seemed stumped — even with more than 600 comments on the story.
