Apple has admitted they’ve been slowing down old phones, but why?

Apple recently admitted that they introduced software into past updates that limit the performance of older iPhones. The reason has to do with battery performance, and how batteries degrade over time. When batteries get older, not only do they not last as long, but they are also less able to deliver as much power at once. When the phones need more power than the battery is able to deliver, the phone shuts down. So Apple decided to throttle some old phones to prevent this from happening. There has been huge backlash, but I think it’s overblown.
