If you’ve ever received an iMessage or text message while your device was locked and forgot to dismiss it, you’ve probably experienced repeating alerts. If you don’t acknowledge a received message, iOS will alert you a second time. This repeating alert is setup by default, but it doesn’t have to be that way forever.

You actually have the option to disable the repeating alerts altogether. Alternatively, you can set it to repeat an alert up to 10 times.

If you’d like to change your message alert settings, watch the video or follow the steps below:

Step 1: Go into the Settings app on your device and tap on Notifications.

Step 2: Next, scroll down to Messages and tap on it.

Step 3: Swipe down to the bottom of the screen and tap on “Repeat Alert.”

Step 4: You’ll now be able to change how many times an alert is repeated. Choosing “Never” will prevent any repeating alerts, while selecting an option such as “3 Times” will repeat the alert three times every two minutes.

Now that you’ve learned how to manage your repeating message alerts, if there’s something else you’d like to see on iOS Advice, please let us know.
