Internet Hate on Mitchell’s Mausers: Fiction to Fact?04:33

A Mitchells’ Mauser is a good looking gun and shoots accurately. They arrive clean, boxed with accessories, a certificate, and can provide an owner a sense of pride. But beware! If you jump into a message board to share your excitement on your purchase, prepare to be shot down hard. Generally you will be called a sucker to have purchased a gun from MM and support a deceptive company. This established internet group think that says owning Mitchell’s Mauser, whether it’s a K98, M48, or Yugo 24/47 is cause for “shame.” Tsk tsk. The internet as YOU should know often creates its own “truth” and it spreads like wildfire. And it seems impenetrable. Let’s see if we can get to the bottom of it all. First, in this light hearted “court” I lay out the indictments against Mitchell’s Mausers [MM]. Points discussed: claims of false advertising, fake stamping, unreported refinishing of guns, ruined collectibility, and “overpricing.” We then take an “intermission” to consider some key facts, not speculation, of an “authentic” Mauser…grounding and debunking the elitism often seen in forums. For instance who can dictate what will and won’t be collectible? And yet declarations of MM never gaining value abound on the interweb. Proven in history: If buyers end up demanding a product in limited supply, then it will be collectible…no matter what it is or the source. Then the upsides of Mitchell’s are chronicled [from our and extensive testing]: accuracy, value, beauty, presentation, the company’s long standing 2nd Amendment support, creating Mauser demand when there was none, and more. MM does not get a free pass however and some criticisms, if true, are emphasized in the end. Another original firearms TNP discussion of a touchstone WW II rifle and a company that helped popularize it.
