For those who have dark skin and have been waxing, plucking or epilating for some time, and have developed dark marks, it is likely that under each mark, there is a hair hiding, even if it is not clearly visible. Hair underneath the skin causes irritation under the skin, which maintains the hyperpigmentation. For as long as the hair is present, the mark will remain. Only by freeing the hair from under the skin can the mark resolve. The same occurs with lighter skin, just that the hair sitting underneath the skin is more visibly there from the outset and the hyperpigmentation isn’t as dark.
