E-waste is the common term for electronic waste, which is the scrap produced from discarded electronics. E-waste contains harmful materials, such as lead, toxic fumes, and cadmium, which are detrimental to the environment, especially if leaked into the water, soil, or the air. E-waste needs to be disposed of safely and responsibly.

Take Electronics Items To The Waste And Recycling Centre

Finding an e-waste recycling centre in your area can be a good way to responsibly recycle e-waste. You can do this by storing the waste, and then send it to the e-waste recycling centre, or to a company that handles e-waste, like EDM Recycling.

Send Back Electronic Items

A lot of electric companies offer an exchange policy, so you can send back out-of-date electronic devices and buy a new one. You might even be able to get a discount if you send back an old device at the same time as buying a new one.

Some companies offer recycling services with drop-off points, so you can drop off all your old electronics, like phones, tablets, and laptops, and have them recycled.

Donate Or Sell Outdated Electronics

Donating or selling old and unwanted electronic devices are both good ways to dispose of your old devices safely, which just about anyone can do.

One easy way to sell your old electronics is to list them on a selling site like eBay or Facebook Marketplace. You might also be able to find a local electronic shop that will buy old devices in order to sell them on.

You could also donate old devices, to students or an NGO. This is another option better than wasting them or throwing them away. However, remember to be careful if you do decide to do this, as old electronics may still contain some of your data. Make sure everything has been fully wiped, and then look for an organisation that handles an electronic goods donation program, to keep everything safe.

Use Cloud Services For Storing Data

To avoid having to buy, use, and carry storage devices all the time, make use of cloud services. Cloud services are a great way to store all of your important data online. This also makes collaboration easier.

The other benefit of using a cloud service is that you can access your data from anywhere. Cloud storage reduces the need for making new storage devices, so you get a lower environmental impact, a reduced carbon footprint, and minimised e-waste.

Rent Electronic Items Instead Of Buying

A clever way to minimise your e-waste is to rent it instead of buying it, especially if you hardly use certain devices.

For example, if you rarely need a video projector for your business, but do use one occasionally, instead of buying one, you should think about renting one. Renting electronics is a much more cost-effective and environmentally-friendly option for a business, as you’re only paying for the duration of usage, and don’t have to buy a new device or replace one.
