This self releasing mechanism is used to put an object to desired lower place, such as lowering and releasing loads from boats to sea bottom.
When the green rod strikes the ground, it is forced upward relatively to the grey rod and withdraws the pink catch from under the yellow object, which drops off and allows the grey rod to be lifted without it.
The mechanism is not suitable for lifting objects.
