NASA’s Johnson Space Center has partnered with IHMC Robotics to develop a powered lower extremity exoskeleton. This wearable robot has 10 joints throughout the hips and knees. These joints provide real time feedback to control movement, position, and velocity of the legs. The suit will be used to assist paraplegics in every day activities and to help astronauts walk in space. It’s also being used to help a paralyzed athlete compete in the first Cybathlon, an athletic competition for robot-assisted athletes.
