Excessive Heat and the effect on Shotgun Slugs04:33

While Danny and I were shooting some factory slugs, we ran into a lot of problems. We couldn’t hit anything at 50 yards, and we thought we had some defective slugs. I wondered in it was the 100 deg. heat we were shooting in. We were putting slugs in a gun that was over 150 degs. Could the heat be the problem? While this might look like a problem with this brand of slugs, this can affect nearly any shotgun shell including birdshot. High heat can affect the rate the powder burns and cause pressure spikes. We have seen unexplained failures on slugs in the past and never accounted for the heat. Live and learn!
