Researchers at OpenAI are teaching robots by demonstrating tasks in virtual reality. Their robot only needs a single demonstration to “understand” the task. The robot uses a “Vision Network” based on hundreds of thousands of virtual reality training simulations to perceive what’s in front it. The “Imitation Network” then looks at the VR and decides how to complete the task in real life. Researchers say the proof of concept will form the backbone of a bigger robotics system. The non-profit research company was co-founded by Elon Musk to explore innovations in artificial intelligence.
