Electromagnet – a device generating a magnetic field by the flow of the electric current. It is made of a coil wound around the ferromagnetic core typically, an open magnetic circuit that increases the intensity of the magnetic field surrounding the coil. The magnetic field generated by the magnet increases with an increase in the intensity of the electric current flowing through the coil. The magnetic field disappears when the current ceases to flow.
