Ever since we purchased this car it has been nothing but trouble. I plan to do a follow-up review soon. The charge door mechanism is electronic on the 2012/2013 model and broken 3 times in the first year of ownership and 3 more times over the last 2 years. Both Chevy (GM) and the dealership I purchased the car admit the charge door assembly is defective and all they can do is keep replacing it until the warranty expires because GM isn’t going to fix the part for the older cars and only fixed it on the 2014+ models by removing the electronic components and making it a manual door. If you own a Chevy Volt and experience this same problem please contact me at [email protected] immediately and let me know about your experience.

Well it was time to get the wife a new car since our 2002 Lexus RX300 had 174,000 miles on it and was just getting old and the seats were in bad shape and the interior was just going down hill. Since my wife drives so much every day to take my son to school and appointments, etc I decided we should go for a Hybrid of some kind to save on gas.

We ended up going to Lee Johnson Chevrolet in Kirkland, WA and had planned on test driving many cars in the area from many different dealerships and just started with the Volt because it was on the top of the list of cars we wanted to check out. During the test drive I actually didn’t like the car that much but when my wife drove it she fell in love and had to have it. And just like I stated in the video the dealer made me an offer that made it hard to walk away so with wife wanting it and the dealer willing to sell it to me below there cost I was willing to play ball.

I actually ended up falling in love with the car once we got in and started driving home. The black interior changed my whole view of the inside of the car, now I absolutely love it and think it’s fantastic. Also the technology in this car is amazing and I love the screen for the gauges and the center console, it just makes everything really easy to access and switch between views. The car has neat features like assisted parking, lane change detection and collision detection. My wife loves that her iPhone just hooks right up to it via USB or Bluetooth and you can completely control it from the touch screen and buttons and dials on the steering wheel.

I love that fact that I just plug the car in and every morning I have 35 – 45 miles of travel before a drop of gas is burned and if I come home before I use up all the battery I can just plug it back in and charge it back up! When charging at 12amps it tops off the battery in about 6 – 8 hours from dead which is great for ensuring the car charges over night. My wife has already driven 140 miles since we purchased the car and I posted this video and she has only burned 1 gallon of gasoline.

So far I’m really enjoying the car and think it has some amazing features, good cargo space for what it is and it fits 4 people comfortably and all the futuristic features make it a pleasure to own and drive. The car also is so smooth, I’ve never driven in an electric car before but I can tell you this thing accelerates so smooth its unreal and it’s very quiet as you would expect.

I’m a little disappointed we didn’t go test drive more cars but my wifes mind was made up and it’s her car and I wanted to get her something she wanted. And the Prius is gutless by comparison so I would rather drive this and the fact it can run full electric for 35+ miles means it’s only real competitor was the LEAF which is very weak by comparison and doesn’t have extended range with GAS so after giving it that thought the Volt was really the only car for us since my wife about once or twice a month does a 300 – 400 mile drive.

I had a lot of fun making this video since we raced some people on the freeway and tested out the cars acceleration a whole bunch. The steering and brakes in the car as beyond amazing and even though it’s not super fast it’s very fun and comfortable to drive. This show is an independent production of Jerry Berg (aka Barnacules).
