Solder wire for solar panels is a thinner wire than traditional store bought solder. Lead free is recommended unless you have a well ventilated work space. This wire is 95% + tin and store bought costs about about $25-$40 a pound. On the internet you can purchase for as low as $18 a pound for lead free. Solar panels require very little for pesky joints that do not want to hold. Even the finer spools are too thick and require longer iron exposure as the wire transfers the heat up the wire. You often end up with a drop that is 10 times too much.

These simple foils provide enough solder for an entire 36 cell panel from a single drop or two from larger diameter solder. Do not use your car:-) Use a deep cooking pan, they work better.
