In this tutorial, I’ll be showing you how to disable the default encryption on the Nexus 6. This feature is not optional with Google’s latest flagship, but a quick mod will disable it nonetheless.

Google’s implementation of encryption leaves a lot to be desired. Rather than having a dedicated hardware chip to do all of the work, a software layer has to constantly encrypt and decrypt all of the data on your phone. As a result, the Nexus 6 suffers greatly when it comes to read and write speeds, resulting in lower performance and battery life than it’s truly capable of.
