Digital Caliper Battery Life: El Cheapo vs. Mitutoyo04:33

In a follow up vid to the previous caliper teardown, we have a look at the current draw of craptacular digital calipers and compare that to the high quality Mitutoyos. The results are astounding. We clearly see why the batteries in low cost tools don’t last. Also, we discover that there is no electronic brownout protection, which could lead to bad readings.

A very kind thank you to PStechPaul for his 2 cents on the low current measurement and possible inaccuracy:
“The current sense resistors are usually for 199.9 mV full scale, so the 20 uA reading on the 200 uA range (1kohm) probably dropped 20 mV. Not really very significant for a rough comparative reading with a 1.5 V source.”
