A sleek metal body, 150 degree rotating metal kickstand with infinite positions, a 12.3” display compatible with pen and touch, an accessory Type Cover… no, it’s not Microsoft Surface Pro 4 or 5, but Dell’s Latitude 5285. It looks like a matte black Surface Pro 4, and that’s not a bad thing, and it has the spec updates we expect to see in Surface Pro 5- Intel 7th generation Kaby Lake dual core 15 watt CPUs, two USB-C 3.1 Gen. 1 ports and fast charging.
The Latitude 5285 is just a few ounces heavier and a millimeter thicker than Surface Pro 4, and it packs not only the same design but the little extras like magnetic pen attachment and a magnetic pogo pin connector for the keyboard. The 5285 starts at $899 and the prices mostly mirror Surface Pro 4 prices as the configurations go up. The two higher end configs include the pen and keyboard, while they’re both separate purchases for the lower end offerings.
The 2-in-1 Windows 10 convertible tablet has a 1920 x 1280 IPS display with 3:2 aspect ratio like Surface Pro 4, albeit at a lower resolution. It’s available with Intel Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs, 4/8/16 GB DDR3LP RAM and there are a variety of SSDs to choose from.
The active pen uses Wacom AES technology with 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity. It’s Dell part number PN557W. other Wacom AES pens work too, including that sold for the XPS 13 2-in-1.
