Find out how you can help NASA and National Geographic Emerging Explorer and University of California San Diego Research Scientist, Dr. Albert Lin, understand our past to help us better prepare for our future.

Learn how crowdsourcing and open innovation can be applied to create machine learning algorithms that accelerate historical discoveries and how NASA assesses satellite imagery.

Hangout out with Dr. Albert Lin, Karim Lakhani, Director of the Harvard-NASA Tournament Lab, and Jason Crusan, the Director of NASA’s Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate Advanced Exploration Systems, as they launch the Collective Minds & Machines Exploration Challenge. The three-week Collective Minds & Machines Exploration Challenge asks TopCoder community members from around the world to study select satellite imagery of the region of the lost tomb of Genghis Khan and then develop an algorithm that learns to recognize modern and ancient human-built structures found in such imagery. Once developed, NASA anticipates the algorithm could be used to accelerate the assessment of planetary imagery.
