Cold Steel Recon 1: “Heavy Achievement” by Nutnfancy04:33

If the Cold Steel Recon 1 knife weighed around 5 ounces, I’d like it better. It weighs 6.6 oz with its undrilled and non-skeletonized steel liners. It is perplexing to me that no weight reduction was attempted on these liners as most quality tactical blades will feature this and it sacrifices nothing in strength. While the current Recon 1 weight doesn’t break the bank, it is substantial and I will not carry it often because of that (your mileage may vary). Some with say that’s the price for a strong tactical folder like the Recon 1 and will have no problem with it but I think high levels of strength can be achieved WITHOUT steel liners. The version shown does provide an outstanding 4″ plain edged clip blade that will have lots of tactical utility and some EDC uses (really too big
for EDC I say). And there’s lots of other pluses as well: fast deployment, solid lockup with the Ultra-Lock (Axis lock from BM), AUS8A steel, deep hollow grinding and razor sharp edge, high traction thumb disk, high traction G10 handles, nice black Teflon finish, milled access notch in handle, reversible blackened clip that carries tip up, and a reasonable price. The design is endearing the more you handle it and its speed is intriguing. But other than shaving off several ounces from the weight, I could see the design being improved by the addition of smooth finishing under the pocket clip (it will shred your pockets), a higher mounted clip, and purposeful jimping on the handle and
blade spine (choil area too). I put the POU on this knife solidly in the defensive knife category where I feel it would serve well. /////////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 6.5 out of 10
