Time-lapse movie of clouds rising from cracks in sea ice near Barrow, Alaska. The cracks are not visible. The heat and moisture that form the clouds drive a newly discovered process that pumps atmospheric mercury down to the Arctic surface, where it can enter the polar food chain.
