China: JiaXing / Shanghai Slow Train VS High Speed Train

Published on January 12, 2018

So i went to JiaXing via Shanghai on a high speed train (Shanghai Hongqiao Railway). The train was nice, comfy, lots of room, etc. However, on the way back the taxi driver took me to another train station, i didnt know there was several of these trains in Jiaxing. It was difficult to get a train ticket as well as find my way to the correct area cause not one person spoke English. The slow train is old but its cheap as hell. I paid 12.50RMB (approx $2) vs approx 50rmb on the fast train. But of course the ride is about twice as long, no AC, seats do not recline, trash in many places, some people spitting peanuts shells on the floor (shell landed on my shoe one time) bc of no AC is was a little musty, etc. . If you guys are ever in Jiaxing area, make sure you go to the fast station which is Jiaxing Nan Station. Nan means South. You need to go to the Jiaxing South Station or else you will be living like a local. Which of course is not bad either, i actually enjoyed the experience.

Note: Shanghai has several railways. The fastest one is called Hongqiao Railway. And of course some go to different locations.
