Brazilian Gang Builds 1,600-Foot Tunnel To Bank Vault

Published on October 15, 2017

Brazilian robbers were on the verge of carrying off arguably the biggest heist ever until they were caught by the police.

The robbers dug a 1,600-foot tunnel from a rented house to a vault of a Bank of Brazil branch that was holding more than $318 million. The tunnel took four months to build and cost the robbers more than $1.2 million.

But the cinematic caper ended badly for the thieves. Police had been monitoring the group for months, arresting 16 people when the dig was complete.

Ocean’s 16, these guys are not.
