Kitamura Chemicals presented its newest biomass plastic technology at the Eco Products 2008 Exhibition.

Biomass is a renewable organic resource that is derived from biological materials. There are many types of biomass, but Kitamura Chemicals is mainly expanding a lineup of bioplastic products that are made by synthesizing polymer compounds based on nonfood rice, or in other words, rice that can no longer be consumed. The main composition includes polyactic acid and bio polyester.

The benefit of biomass plastics is that the plastics are made of biomass such as rice so fossil resources can be conserved, and this in turn contributes to reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Biomass plastics also generate very little static electricity and are made of plant derived resins with superior heat resistance and rigidity, and as a result, biomass plastics generate no toxic fumes and almost no incineration ash. Kitamura Chemicals plans to continue developing biomass plastics in accordance future market needs and the expanding demand for soft polyactic acid.

Kitamura Chemicals began handling environmental materials that utilize biodegradable functions ten years ago and plans to continue with its efforts to promote a carbon neutral society.
