Bing Chat is Coming to Google Chrome and Safari

Published on July 20, 2023

If you’ve been itching to give Bing Chat a whirl on Google Chrome or Apple’s Safari, Microsoft’s got some good news for you! They’re rolling out their sassy AI chatbot to both of these browsers, and some lucky users are already getting a taste of its latest test. But fear not, if you’re still on the outside looking in, you ain’t alone.

The scoop comes straight from Windows Latest, but it’s been spotted by the eagle-eyed folks over at 9to5Google and The Verge too. You see, up until now, Bing Chat was exclusive to Microsoft’s own Edge browser. But no longer! To get in on the action, all you gotta do is mosey on over to the Bing website and click on that “Chat” icon. Easy peasy, right? And let me tell ya, the experience ain’t all that different from what you’ll find on Edge. You can type in a prompt and even pick your own conversation style. Fancy!

Now, those of you who’ve been yammerin’ away on Bing Chat via Edge might notice a couple of differences. Here’s the deal: on Chrome and Safari, you can only use up to 2,000 characters to fill a prompt, while on Edge, you get double the fun with 4,000 characters. That’s a whole lotta character to play with, ain’t it?

But wait, there’s more! There’s a limit to how chatty you can get in a single conversation on Chrome and Safari. You can ask up to five questions, whereas those stickin’ to Edge can go on a question spree of up to 30! Talk about a conversation marathon! Once you hit the limit, Bing Chat will put up a sign that says, “Sorry, this conversation has reached its limit. Use the “broom” button to sweep this away and chat more.” Well, that’s one way to politely tell ya to cool it!

But don’t you worry, now! Microsoft’s got your back. They’ve also thrown in a dark mode for Bing Chat, so you can switch up the colors if you’re looking to set a different vibe. Just head on into the Appearance menu and work your magic. If you can’t access it on your favorite browser just yet, Caitlin Roulston, the communications honcho at Microsoft, assures us that they’ll open up the gates to even more users once they’re done with their standard testing. So hang tight! It’s only a matter of time before everybody’s in on the Bing Chat bonanza!
