Have you ever wondered what a design team would do if they didn’t have to worry about cost, or mass production? The Audi Q8 concept is exactly that every design element they could dream off with out having to wonder…how user-friendly is that. It’s not realistic to remove every button from the cockpit of a car, but it seems Audi has. For those that lust for that uncluttered interior you’re going to dream of this dashboard. The door handles are also gone, simple tap or slowly and loving stroke the 4 rings to open the door. Design wise inspiration was drawn from the Ur-Quattro race car from the 1980s paying homage to the wide flat C-pillars and the broad flares over the wheel arches. The Q8s chin spoiler boldly states that this is a plug-in hybrid that’s based on a turbocharged 3 liter V6 mated to an electric motor that’s capable of 516 lb ft of torque and will be able to travel short distances on battery power alone. This is going to evolve into the Q8 it’s just no possible for Audi to launch this concept. When it comes to mass production we’ll be seeing buttons reappear, the expensive metals will disappear and the door handles will return because it’s a law in case of an accident. But it’s always nice to get a peek behind the curtain and to wonder at the possibility the future holds.
