Arabic Rock Band El Morabba3 Plays U.K. After Being Denied Entry
After playing their first U.K. concert after being initially denied entry into the country, Arabic rock band El Morabba3 is rocking through borders.
Muhammad Abdullah, the lead singer of the band and a Palestinian refugee, says that, like other independent Arab groups, El Morabba3 is often denied visas.
The band, which formed in Jordan eight years ago, recently won “Best Independent Song” at the first Arab Nation Music Awards, and have since gained a large following. But they’ve had difficulty expanding their fanbase beyond the Middle East. Their London debut is a way to bring Arabic rock to a new audience, in a city the band considers one of the music capitals of the world.
