There are a lot of mixed opinions out there about antivirus (or anti-malware) apps on Android, so in this video I add to the confusion and give you my opinion =) on whether or not its something you “need” to have.
Personally, I don’ think you really need an antivirus app on your phone. But at the same time, it doesn’t hurt to have it there either. The reason you don’t need it is because if your afraid of downloading a virus app and you download from Google Play, Google already filters the malicious ones out.
On the other hand, if you download from non-market sources, then I’d go with one just in case. But honestly, the good anti-virus apps out there offer more than just protection from malicious apps. They offer things like GPS location tracking, remote lock, alerts, etc.
That’s the main reason why I decided to download avast! on my phone. Regardless of what anti-virus app you download (there are plenty, like Lookout, AVG, Norton, etc), I’d recommend sticking with the free ones cause I don’t think its worth it to spend money on something you probably don’t even need.
