AMD has launched its R9 290, which outputs a ton of heat and chugs wattage like Natty Ice. It also dominates several games at high resolutions and nearly matches the performance of the R9 290X for a fraction of the price.
In this video, I benchmark the R9 290 against the R9 290X, GTX 780, and the GTX Titan at 1920×1080 and 2560×1600 using the following system on an open-air testbed:
