Lisa Gade reviews the Acer Predator 17 (G9-793), a 17” gaming laptop with NVIDIA GTX 1070 Pascal graphics and quad core Intel CPUs (currently 6th generation Skylake Core i7-6700HQ, soon with 7th generation Kaby Lake i7-7700HQ). This is a desktop replacement sized gaming laptop with a unified soft touch matte black finish on fiberglass panels. It goes up against the Alienware 17 R4, MSI GT72VR Dominator and other 17” powerhouse gaming notebooks. It has 4 RAM slots and our configuration has 16 gigs of DDR4 2400 MHz RAM, Killer 1535AC WiFi, a 256 gig RAID0 boot M.2 SSD (also available with non-RAID PCIe NVME SSD), a 1 TB 7200 RPM HDD and a zone backlit keyboard. It’s available with a full HD 1920 x 1080 matte IPS display and a 4K high gamut matte IPS display. It’s an impressive machine for the price, particularly given heavy discounts at several retailers.
