A Super Mantis was the first RC Night Flying Heli, 40 years ago witnessed and videoed by Sam Wright.

In 1977 we were flying airplanes successfully in the dark with just light bulbs so I decided to fly a Nitro helicopter in the dark the same way. It was an American RC Super Mantis. This video was shot by Sam Wright, famous today as an announcer at Major RC Fly-ins. So when someone says Night flying helicopters are new today, don’t you believe it!
