Although they don’t necessarily come cheap, a good quality smartphone is a great investment. We live in a digital age where, for most of us, our phones never leave our side. Since we are so often glued to our screens, it is inevitable that these devices come under threat from various environmental factors. In addition to the usual knocks and falls, there is dirt and grime all around us, and not forgetting the pressure we put on the device with all our downloads and the like.

Having made such a major investment, it’s only natural that you’ll want to take care of your new iPhone and ensure it has a long and fruitful life. Repairs and tech support can be expensive, so here are a few tips to help you take good care of your device, which should save you a little bit of money in the long run too:

  1. Buy a Durable Case

The first thing to do after buying an iPhone is to buy a durable case. There are plenty of different types of iPhone cases on the market – from plastic and metal, to leather and silicone. Silicone cases come highly recommended because they allow the phone a degree of cushioning and bounce, which reduces the impact in the event that the device is dropped.

  1. Use a Screen Protector

One of the greatest risks to your new iPhone is a cracked screen. Smartphone screens are delicate, and while in some cases you can still continue to use the device even if it has some cracks on it, these do have a tendency to grow and could cause issues further down the line. Adding a screen protector to your device saves the original touch screen from scratches as well as crack. These are completely removable and leaves no trace on your device. A screen protector doesn’t cost much, but it’ll take the brunt of the impact should you drop your phone, so this is a wise level of protection to add to your device.

  1. Keep It Clean

Even though we wash our hands several times a day, most people don’t afford their smartphones the same luxury. Neglecting to clean your device regularly not only makes it pretty disgusting, but the dirt also has the potential to cause technical issues. Using a microfiber cloth to wipe down your iPhone removes dust particles and lint. You can also use a pin or toothpick to gently clean the charging port which also tends to accumulate dirt.

  1. Free Up Space

We’ve discussed cleaning the exterior of your iPhone, but what about its internal components? Actively using your phone on a daily basis likely means that it is full of downloads and pictures. You need to make a real effort to delete unnecessary apps and transfer photos onto the iCloud as overloading the device can force it to operate more slowly. Freeing up space will do the world of wonders for your phone.

  1. Run Regular Updates and Keep Your Device Virus-Free

It’s important to think of your iPhone as a little computer that is prone to be attacked by digital viruses from time to time. The great thing about Apple devices is there is no real need to install antivirus software, as the regular updates tend to tackle the most common threats. There are other ways to ensure your device operates smoothly, so be sure that you know how to remove virus from iPhone

When your iPhone functions optimally, it can be a real lifeline. It’s in your best interest to ensure the health of your Apple device by following these simple pieces of advice. They don’t require a great deal of effort, but are likely to reap great rewards for you further down the line.
