2016年10月30日から11月11日まで行われる自衛隊と在日米軍との日米統合演習｢キーン・ソード17｣での、フィリピン海で演習中の海上自衛隊のあきづき型護衛艦あきづき(DD-115)、アメリカ海軍のニミッツ級空母ロナルド・レーガン(CVN-76)、タイコンデロガ級巡洋艦チャンセラーズビル(CG-62)と、岩国基地での陸上自衛隊と米海兵隊との基地警護訓練。
キーン・ソード17は日本周辺海空域、自衛隊基地、在日米軍基地、グアムや北マリアナ諸島周辺海空域で行われる。

The U.S. Navy Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76), Ticonderoga-class cruiser USS Chancellorsville (CG-62), and the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force Akizuki-class destroyer JS Akizuki (DD-115), navigate in formation in Philippine Sea, and US Marines and Japan Ground Self Defense Force members conducted training on detaining and searching a simulated detainee during the joint bilateral exercise Keen Sword 17 at Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, Oct. 30-Nov. 11.
Keen Sword 17 is designed to meet mutual defense objectives by increasing combat readiness and interoperability between Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) and U.S. Forces Japan (USFJ).
