Instagram is resisting Facebook, here’s why it is a good thing for both platforms

Facebook is currently right in the middle of the turmoil over the Cambridge Analytica privacy data scandal. However, it appears that its counter-part Instagram is serving the first saving grace for customers. Facebook must thank the founders and their continued influence on the application that helps them realize the initial vision. However, it does not necessarily mean that both the companies do not have profound impacts on each other. Yet, Mike Krieger and Kevin Systrom have reportedly gone to great lengths to maintain the application’s core purpose. For those who aren’t aware, Mike Krieger and Kevin Systrom are the founders of the Instagram application. “That’s not to say that both companies haven’t had a profound impact on one another, but Mike Krieger and Kevin Systrom have reportedly gone to great lengths to maintain the application’s core purpose,” notes a report by Android Headlines.

According to a recent insider story published by Bloomberg, the pair may have gone so far that they actively refuse to change the platform even though Facebook’s CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg personally requested them to do so as such. If they ended up planning such a critical deed, it would mean that they were okay with holding off the construction of newer features that mimic Snapchat. As can be recalled, Instagram sent the technology world in a state of shock when they blatantly copied Snapchat’s key ‘Stories’ feature back in the day. While at that time Instagram did end up inviting a lot of criticism, the criticism did not necessarily extend to such a stage wherein they would lose customers. A little while later, Instagram had become the most successful social media application. It had gone on to surpass its arch-rival Snapchat as well.

“In those instances, Krieger and Systrom’s responses to public reactions have arguably been far better than Zuckerberg’s own with Facebook,” notes the report by Android Headlines. One good example of this subject would be Instagram’s influence on other similar platforms that have been carried out by Facebook. In many different ways, Zuckerberg has not been wrong at identifying that the two companies are almost the same company at the moment. The photo-sharing platform has approached an ad-driven stage. It now goes on to contribute majorly to its parent company’s profit margins. Apart from this, Facebook’s legal team is also actively working to bring about changes to Instagram policies, especially when it comes to the use of user data. When the policies were redrafted, a change was thrown in which permissions were granted wherein they chose the right to sell user pictures.

It turned out to be a big deal especially because photos are the primary means of communication on Instagram. The changes do not sit well with more observant users who are eager to put two companies’ relationship under the microscope. “Kriger and Systrom’s response to public outcry over the policy seems to have been both swift and meaningful,” an online report reads. “Upon witnessing an acceleration of account removals, the co-founders promptly replaced that particular section of policy with the same policy that had previously been in place,” the report further adds. Apart from this, Facebook’s legal team is also actively working to bring about changes to Instagram policies, especially when it comes to the use of user data. A little while later, Instagram had become the most successful social media application. It had gone on to surpass its arch-rival Snapchat as well. We are not sure of what exactly awaits in the future, especially given Facebook’s current status.
