Now you can grow your own car.

Dutch students recently created an electric car with a biocomposite body structure derived from sugar beets and flax.

Beet resin is blended into a bio-plastic that gives the car its structural support.

The two materials are also extremely light, as a four-seat electric prototype weighs just under 700 pounds. Lighter weight also means fewer batteries, so the vehicle’s battery pack weighs just 70 pounds. It tops out at 50 mph and has a range of 62 miles on a single charge.

Production could help the industry cut its carbon footprint, and drive transportation towards a more sustainable future.
