This concept drone is making a splash. Rutgers is behind the Naviator. It can manage just fine in the air, but it really shines once it dives below the water. The Naviator uses its propellers to move underwater. The drone also has no problem resurfacing. The work was funded by the Office of Naval Research. Similar technology could one day help the US Navy and could be used for amphibious missions. Those missions can include bridge inpections and oil spill monitoring. For now, the Naviator has to be tethered by a wire because the radio signal control can’t penetrate the water. This can be solved with future technology.
