Berkeley researchers are using virtual reality to train robots in specific tasks.

Researchers use VR headsets and controllers to guide the robot through an assignment. The robots uses machine learning to sense, study and match the human process, often “learning” in less than a day. That saves weeks, or even months, of costly coding.

Researchers see a practical application at manufacturing plants. The experiment adds to the list of other machine learning projects, like AlphaGo teaching itself how to play a board game, and Mariflow, a bot that learned to play Mario Kart by watching players’ gameplay footage.
