NASA announced on June 17 eight candidates to train for its 2013 astronaut class after an extensive year-and-a-half long search. These new trainees would potentially be the first astronauts to launch on a commercial spacecraft from U.S. soil.
The four men and four women were selected from a pool of over 6,000 applicants. They will train all over the world for possible missions in low-Earth orbit, to an asteroid and Mars.
