Is it possible that the gun industry over hypes and under delivers on their new products? Not only is it possible, it is frequent from my testing. Away from the range and in the desert we do our testing on the Rock River Arms LAR-47. Our hopes were high despite its ghastly front handguard and gaudy gas block (both gotta’ go). Accuracy, as shown was impressive and credit is given here. Perhaps away from the desert “table” that accuracy could be even better. But again we see the problems of adapting the 7.62x39mm cartridge to the AR-15 platform: the tapered AK round is hard to adapt to the AR-15 lower. Sure it will fit but will it function with a wide variety of magazines? Despite the promises of reliablity and acceptance of different magazines, the LAR-47 failed multiple times. It soon became one of those many tests where it isn’t fun and we just wanted to get it over with and go on to something that works (like the TNP AK). The gun was fully lubricated but that did not help. Maybe the LAR-47 can be improved and other version/mag combinations would do better. But its performance here was underwhelming and any gun that is magazine finicky will never be rec’d here.
