This is a look at the inside of some common Chinese lights that are designed to plug into a USB port, power supply or power bank and be used for local illumination. When used with a portable USB power bank they make a very bright flashlight.
They all use a standard 1W LED (run at less than half a watt), with one model using the bare LED on a PCB while the bulk used a standard Luxeon Star type LED which is easily swapped for a different colour if desired. The resistor values varied between 100 ohm to 180 ohm giving a current range of between 100 to 150mA.
