Leaked: Xiaomi’s Mi 6X smartphone to come devoid of 3.5mm headphone jack?

Published on April 15, 2018

Chinese smartphone manufacturer has been on a launching spree ever since the beginning of this year. The device developer has been taking the wraps off one smartphone after another within a short period this year. The company recently took the wraps off the Mi MIX 2s smartphone. Following which, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer went on to reveal their Black Shark gaming handset. Xiaomi, it appears, has begun sending out invites for yet another launch event. The invitation itself does not mention any name on specifications of the upcoming device. However, in the world of leaks and rumors, the next smartphone from the side of Xiaomi will be the next-generation Mi 6X device. The smartphone manufacturer will be taking the wraps off Xiaomi’s next-generation mid-range offering. “Chaps going by the name of FunkyHuawei.club at XDA forums have got their hands on leaked firmware files that have given out the specifications that the Mi 6X will most likely be launched with,” an online report reads.

Furthermore, the upcoming Mi 6X smartphone primarily seems to be packing the Redmi Note 5 Pro handset with a more powerful Snapchat 660 system-on-chip. In other words, instead of the latest Snapdragon 636 chipset, the smartphone will be carrying the Snapdragon 660 system-on-chip. However, the system will apparently be limited to 2.0GHz. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer is expected to take the wraps off three variants when it comes to storage, i.e., 4GB/32GB, 6GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB. Apart from this, it is being reported that the device has been spotted with MIUI 9 based on Android 8.1 Oreo along with Xiaomi’s AI Lens feature.

Specifications:

As far as its specifications are concerned, the upcoming smartphone will end up featuring a 5.99-inch full HD Plus smartphone with support for LCD technology. The handset will further be home to a 2,910mAh battery. “It will be backed by a 2910mAh battery, which doesn’t seem a lot considering the mammoth specifications underneath,” an online report reads. On the camera front, the smartphone will end up sporting a dual camera setup with a 12-megapixel plus a 20-megapixel sensor. Each of these sensors will further support with a f/1.8 aperture.

On the front end, the device will also be packing a 20-megapixel sensor along with support for f/2.2 aperture. The setup is identical to the one that appeared on the Redmi Note 5 Pro smartphone. However, the next-generation Mi 6X smartphone ended up lacking only one feature from its predecessor, i.e., the 3.5mm headphone jack. The firmware information goes on to indicate that the upcoming handset will have one characteristic ‘shared’ port for the charging and audio feature. It might come across as a bummer, but one can expect the no 3.5mm jack trend to catch up with the midrange segment at the moment.

Release Date:

If Xiaomi ends up launching the Mi 6X smartphone at its April 27 event, then India could hope to see the successor to the Mi A1 smartphone soon enough. The Mi A1 smartphone is referred to as the Mi A2 smartphone; the Indian variant is expected to retain the features that appeared on the Mi 6X smartphone. “The Indian variant could retain most of the features of the Mi 6X, except for the MIUI OS, which will be replaced by Google’s Android One ROM based on Android 8.1 Oreo,” an online report further suggests. If the handset does end up featuring such specifications, then it is highly possible that the mid-range gadget will carry a mid-range price as well.
