Kershaw Chill: “$16 Well Spent” by Nutnfancy04:33

Kershaw’s formula for high quality for less produces another great every day carry knife. The Kershaw Chill is a 2.0 oz very trim and easy to carry EDC blade. This RJ Martin design comes out fast with the tang flipper and this little liner lock locks up solidly. This liner lock should be strong enough for the POU given. The 3.13″ blade is narrow in profile and offers a lean cutting profile. The tip achieves a rare combination of strength and “pointy-ness.” However it does not arrive very sharp out of box and I would prefer to see a full flat grind on this one so as make a more gradual relief edge. Some work on ceramic rods helped but the blade’s narrow width and its steeper approach to the hollow grind hampers its slice-ability somewhat. The Kershaw serrations on the combo edge version shown are excellent as usual. The 8Cr13Mov steel is a good high value choice, showing good edge holding and rust resistance at its price point. It sharpens easily too. The Chill features an elevated thumb ramp that begs to be jimped (and that’s just what I did) for better control. The liners are skeletonized. This is a surprising feature at this price point and is responsible for the light 2.0 oz carry weight. Thin medium traction CNC-milled G10 scales adorn the frame, keeping the overall width of the Chill very trim. A Zytel back spacer fills the backside. Maintenance and cleaning can easily performed with the mini-Torx screws. Blade centering in the handle is excellent. It would be easy to ruin this knife with a jacked up clip that has “Wizard of Oz” issues. Thankfully that doesn’t happen on the Chill. It’s thin, strong, low profile and is reversible for tip up or down orientation. With the lightness and thinness achieved, the Chill a delight in carry and it makes a very unobtrusive daily companion. If Kershaw and RJ Martin were attempting to create a strong, fast, lightweight, and affordable gentleman’s knife then they have arrived. ///////////////////////////////////////// Nutnfancy LIkability Scale: 9 out of 10 (price considered)
