In this video, I show you the two major new features for Face Unlock on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The first major new feature is the ability to improve face matching by capturing your face in different situations like low light, bearded or no beard, glasses or contacts, etc.
The second new feature is the liveness check. Basically, this fixes the problem of someone being able to steal your picture and trick the phone into unlocking. With liveness check, the phone asks you to blink so it can verify that it is looking at a real person instead of a picture.
Overall, the accuracy and the speed has been much improved for Face Unlock in Jelly Bean. I find this to be especially true in low light conditions where I had a lot of problems with Face Unlock on ICS. I don’t know if its practical enough for me to use it on an everyday basis, but if you were happy with Face Unlock on ICS, you’ll love it on Jelly Bean.
